Homework Help

Homework is one of those things that when you hear the word homework it can drum up negative connotations. It is very important that parents assist their children with their homework when they can. Setting aside specific time, and a place for your children to do their homework is important. If they have a consistent time for them to do their work it makes it easier for them to do. Also making sure they have a quiet area to work is important. There should be an area with no TV or music, so they aren't distracted by the noise. It is also important for you to assist your children with their work, but not do it for them. They shouldn't have more than one hour of homework each night. If you work on homework with your child and you have been at it for extended periods of time, it is OK to write the teacher a note saying you couldn't complete the work. Keep in contact with your child's teachers to assure you know what is going on in their classrooms. Here are some helpful hints to help with homework:

  • Have a quiet area for your child to do their homework
  • Have a specific time each day for them to do their homework
  • Keep in contact with their teachers
  • Don't ask them if they have homework, ask them where there homework is
  • Contact the school to access their grades and work through our parent information system(you will need Internet for this, but it can be accessed through any computer including public library)
  • Help your child with homework, but don't do it for them
  • If working for excessive periods of time on homework, contact teacher by note or email

Beautification Project

If you haven't been by KMS for a while you will notice a new look to the front of the building. We have started the beautification project at KMS. Our advisory teachers have paired up and each pair has a section of the outside and section of the inside of the school they are responsible for helping keep up. Mr. White and Mrs. Harden, along with Mr. Ketchum's work crew have been busy painting the front of the school. The students in the advisory classes have helped out tremendously with the project. While it is making the school look better, the ultimate goal is for the students to have pride in their school, which in turn will give them more of a reason to take care of the school.
There have been several other projects done throughout the school, we welcome you to come in and take a look at what we are doing to help beautify the school. The weather is starting to change, so we will be moving our projects in doors until spring. We encourage parents to become involved in the school, so if there is something you can help with please contact Mr. Ketchum at the school.
